Candlelit Vigil 2018

Every year we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls on November 25th with a candlelit march and vigil.

Councillor Asher Craig, Deputy Mayor of Bristol joined us this year.

We marked the end of the 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls by holding our candle lit vigil in North Somerset, remembering all those affected by domestic and sexual abuse.

Thank you to all those who came along to support, to the survivors who read out their inspirational poetry, and to Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees, Deputy PCC Claire Hiscott and Cllr Rachael Hunt for speaking at the event.

Our annual Candle Lit Vigil to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls was a great success, and has launched our social media vigil over the next 16 days.

We warmly welcomed Cllr Asher Craig, PCC Mark Shelford and Deputy PCC Claire Hiscott, where they learnt about our Respite Rooms project, a joint partnership with St Mungos, and heard from the women we have supported.

Children in Next Link loved decorating crescent moons to represent Ramadan and talking about the significance of the moon in Islam.

Thank you to all those who donated Easter Eggs for the families in Next Link Safe Houses and women living in Missing Link’s Supported Housing. A fantastic celebration was had by all!

We were delighted to be successfully accredited by Limeculture for our Safe Link Adult and Children’s ISVA services, and Advice Quality Standards for our Next Link services! External accreditations like this ensure the services we deliver are of the highest standards.

We had great fun celebrating International Women’s Day at work and also at the City Hall event! Here are some photos of the occasion, and an interview with Ujima Radio on why IWD is an important day for staff and the women we support.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Diwali across all our services and in our houses.

Thank you to everyone who joined our candlelit vigil to honour and remember the women that are killed – on average 1 every 3 days – by male violence.
