‘At BDP, we are proud to deliver accessible services for women, including women-only services and free crèche service, so women with child care responsibilities don’t experience barriers to the support they need. We pledge to continue these services and work to make them more accessible moving forward.’ Anna Smith, CEO of BDP

We are holding a virtual vigil across our social media channels during our 16 days of activism against gender based violence, and are being joined by many of our valued partners and friends.

This year we are aligning ourselves with the UN’s theme of showing how you care. We will be sharing our pledges for action, to help inspire others and celebrate the power we have collectively to make real and sustainable change to those experiencing domestic or sexual violence.

NEXT LINK DOMESTIC ABUSE AND SAFE LINK SEXUAL VIOLENCE SERVICES
CANDLELIT
VIGIL – Bristol, South Glos & North Somerset

Please come and join us!
To mark the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls!

Next Link and Safe Link are inviting people to join our candlelit vigil to highlight the number of women and children affected by Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence. All three vigils take place during 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

This year we also want to remember one of the most pivotal feminists of the women’s liberation movement, Ellen Malos! Ellen opened up her home as a women’s centre, and one of the first refuges in the world. We will be talking about her incredible legacy, and everything she did to improve the lives of victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Ellen sadly passed away this year, and we will be holding a minutes silence to remember and honour her.

SOUTH GLOS: WEDNESDAY 29TH NOVEMBER.
Kings Chase Shopping Centre, Regent Street, Kingswood, Bristol BS15 8LP at 4:30pm

BRISTOL: THURSDAY 30TH NOVEMBER.
The procession will leave Next Link, 5 Queen Square BS1 5JQ at 4.45pm and make its way to College Green.

NORTH SOMERSET: THURSDAY 7TH DECEMBER.
The Bandstand in Grove Park, Upper Church Rd, Weston-Super-Mare BS23 2AE at 4:30pm

One in three women experience physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. Violence against women and girls is one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations, and has devastating and life changing consequences.

This is a chance to get together to remember all those who have lost their lives due to domestic and sexual abuse, and to call for an end of gender based violence and abuse.

During each vigil, two larger candles will be lit by survivors to symbolise the two women who die each week through domestic abuse in this country.

If you can please bring a jam jar or portable tealight holder – tealights and hot chocolate will be provided before the march at our Bristol event.

Virtual Vigil – A pledge for action!

2023-11-21T13:00:29+00:00

This year, we are aligning ourselves with the UN’s theme of showing how you care.

By using the hand pattern which you can download below (or drawing around your own hand), you can write a message inside, to show what you’re doing or what you pledge to do, to help inspire others and celebrate the power we have collectively.

This could be on a personal or organisational level. For example, engaging with grassroots feminist organisations, calling out bad behaviour when you see it or how you support women in the workplace.

Then we’d like you to take a picture with your hands in your organisations, or as an individual, to show your support. These will be shared throughout the 16 days of activism, creating a ‘virtual vigil’.

Please can you send these photos, alongside any message to Lauren at [email protected].

These need to be sent by Monday 20th November to ensure there is plenty of time to organise them for social media platforms.
